Theme Songs

weight loss, Weight Watchers

I first came across a personal ‘theme song’ whilst watching Ally McBeal in the late 90s early noughties. For those of you who have never seen this, firstly watch it it’s brilliant but secondly as we watch Ally (a lawyer in a pretty unconventional firm) go from one disaster to another in terms of her love life we see her therapist ask Ally to have a  ‘theme song’ she chose Tell Him-Google it and you will be bopping along in no time!  I still can’t hear that song without seeing the physical and mental change her character has when she plays it in her head. I have had a theme tune for a few years and it’s the song that helped me slim down for my wedding in 2011-I wasn’t a Weight Watcher then but had I been I would have been at goal. Over the last few years I have listened to the song many times but have tuned out to the ‘message’ that it had for me and therefore the positive effect it has. So it’s time to switch up the volume on my theme song and start listening to the words again. Here are my favourite lyrics from my theme song-see if can you guess what it is without having a peep down to the bottom of the page.

I know this pain, why do you lock yourself up in these chains

No one can change your life except for you

It then goes on to say

Is it really fair to feel this way inside? – how are we doing have you got it yet? Do you need more lyrics or are you already singing away?

You could sustain

Or are you comfortable with the pain?

You’ve got no one to blame for your unhappiness

You got yourself into your own mess

More???

Don’t you think it’s worth your time

To change your mind?

Are you singing away now?? Is it playing loud and clear in your head??

If you don’t have it by now then shame on you for not recognising a classic!

This song makes me very emotional -I have tears in my eyes as I write this as it speaks so clearly to me about taking responsibility and ownership for myself and for my weight struggles

If you haven’t got it by now it’s Wilson Philips Hold On. The chorus says . Things’ll go your way, if you hold on for one more day.

So that’s what I intend to do every day-hold on for one more day, persevere and keep going to goal!

  1. I used to watch that show and I just giggled a little nuttily at your description of that law firm as “pretty unconventional!” Yes, you could definitely call it that!
